Maintenance
Responsible for preventative maintenance of plant and equipment while complying with all standards to optimize availability and reliability of plant (maximize production).
Vacancy Description
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Perform routine repairs and preventative maintenance of the mechanical equipment in a professional and cost-effective manner.
• Minimize engineering-related breakdowns and callouts in areas of responsibility.
• Provide technical and expert advice on general maintenance of all equipment & machines.
• Ensure that specified approved stock levels are kept, minimizing downtime.
• Assist in contingency planning and organizing planned outages.
• Ensure all tools and equipment are always maintained in good working condition.
• Ensure safety and housekeeping meets the standards as set out in terms of the OHS Act and client requirements
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS, REGISTRATIONS, LICENCES & PERMITS:
• Trade Test: Fitter (Red Seal)
• Valid 08 driver’s license.
• Condition monitoring certification will be an advantage.
EXPERIENCE:
• Preferably 3-5 years of post-trade test-related work experience in installation, operation, service, fault finding, repair, and maintenance of plant equipment, ideally within water treatment operations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
• Mechanical aptitude and awareness
• Knowledge of appropriate mechanical principles and practices preferably in water and wastewater
• Operating principles of plant equipment such as, but not limited to, valves, pumps, gearboxes, hydraulics, and motors.
• Knowledge of basic asset management principles.
• Problem-solving skills to solve and repair system mechanical issues efficiently and effectively.
• Adequate knowledge of system structures and how to troubleshoot systems by utilizing the knowledge of how the system was designed to perform
• Operational and safety procedures pertaining to maintenance activities, including safe use of tools and hand tools.
• Maintain pertinent records.
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in written form.
• Operate office equipment, including computers and supporting software applications.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Medically fit in line with client requirements
• Treatment plant environment: exposure to noise, vibration, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, solvents, toxic materials, and hazardous chemicals within the allowable exposure limits as defined by the Department of Labor.
• Exposure to all types of weather and temperature conditions.
• Work in confined spaces.
• Working at heights.
• Work and/or walk on various types of surfaces, including uneven surfaces.
• Enough physical ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting; standing and walking for prolonged periods of time; climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and operating motorized equipment. Good hand-eye co-ordination.
• See in the normal visual range with or without correction to read computer screens and printed documents and to operate equipment.
• Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
• Stand-by duties after hours and over weekends may be required.
