The Maintenance Planner is responsible for planning, scheduling, coordinating and monitoring preventative and corrective maintenance activities.

Vacancy Description

Maintenance Planning and Plant Management

  • Compile, maintain, update and continuously improve preventative maintenance, service and component replacement schedules.
  • Develop daily, weekly, three-weekly and monthly maintenance plans based on preventative maintenance schedules, condition monitoring reports, defect lists, root cause analyses and operational requirements.
  • Communicate maintenance plans and schedules timeously to all relevant maintenance, operations and contractor stakeholders.
  • Monitor execution of planned maintenance, follow up on completed work and ensure close-out of work orders.
  • Monitor and manage maintenance backlogs; identify corrective actions and ensure timely resolution.
  • Coordinate staff, contractors, spares, tools and materials to support planned maintenance activities.
  • Plan and prepare high-risk work packages, shutdowns and specific maintenance projects, including detailed planning on MS Project where required.
  • Conduct regular plant walkdowns to verify work progress, plant condition and compliance with schedules.
  • Ensure condition monitoring programmes (e.g. oil analysis, vibration analysis) are planned, executed and followed up.
  • Compile and submit maintenance timesheets, breakdown reports and required operational data.
  • Raise, review and manage defect work orders and track completion, progress and feedback.
  • Facilitate root cause analysis processes and support plant improvement and optimisation initiatives.

SHEQ Compliance

  • Implement, apply and comply with company and client SHEQ management system requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation, standards and site-specific requirements.
  • Conduct hazard identification, risk assessments, SHE inspections and planned task observations; ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Ensure tools, equipment and plant are safe, compliant and well maintained.
  • Promote good housekeeping and environmental compliance within areas of responsibility.
  • Draft, review and maintain safe work procedures, policies and standard maintenance procedures.
  • Identify and manage non-conformances and ensure corrective and preventative actions are implemented.

Reporting

  • Collate and analyse daily, weekly and monthly maintenance and performance data.
  • Prepare and submit mandatory and ad hoc reports to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor maintenance efficiencies and key performance indicators (KPIs); identify improvement opportunities.

Stakeholder, Customer and Supplier Relations

  • Collate and analyse daily, weekly and monthly maintenance and performance data.
  • Prepare and submit mandatory and ad hoc reports to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor maintenance efficiencies and key performance indicators (KPIs); identify improvement opportunities.
  • Support the development and interrogation of performance management matrices

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS, PERMITS/LICENCES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent.
  • Trade Test Certificate (Mechanical / Electrical or relevant discipline).
  • Maintenance Planning and/or Project Planning qualification or training.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in industrial plant maintenance planning.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Advanced knowledge of maintenance scheduling.  
  • Maintenance principles and practices of plant equipment knowledge.
  • Knowledge of operational and safety procedures pertaining to industrial plant.
  • Quality Management principles and quality control procedures
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001, 45001
  • Knowledge of the identification, inspecting, safe use, maintenance and care for plant and engineering tools.
  • Knowledge of Plant applications in the water industry.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Project management course preferred.
